Ever since I was a kid, I always check out the greeting card station in a Bookstore. During that time, internet is expensive and limited to coding so there are no eCards yet. So receiving greeting cards by mail was still a hit. I like seeing all those cute drawings and simple messages in them. Of course Hallmark and American Greeting cards are the best and sometimes pricey, but there are locally made cards that are good enough to convey you message and fun to give away. But creating your own is always the most thoughtful thing that anyone can get.
Where should you start? First thing to do is determine what the greeting card is for and who will receive it. You have to know the occasion otherwise it will be odd receiving a greeting card for a different purpose. It is like getting a thank you card for someone who is sick. This is crucial in pin-pointing what your intention for the recipient of the greeting card. So, if it is for a special occasion or for wooing a girl, it should be obvious on the greeting card that you will make.
Second thing to do is determine what exact message you want. It can be very cheesy, serious or straight forward, or comical. Cheesy messages are for those special persons when you want to show what you really feel. It can be about loving, about caring or just missing them. The serious or straight forward messages are those that tells something about business, well wishes, or congratulatory. Then we have comical messages or humorous. This is great for anything because you basically want to make the recipient smile whatever the purpose of the greeting card is. Best to get ideas is through the internet. There are a variety of messages and quotes that you can copy or adopt.
Last thing to do is to make a design depending on the first and second step. Knowing the intention and the recipient, you will be able to decorate the card and personalize it. There are quite a lot of materials out there like scrapbooking that will help you in designing a greeting card. This will show you as the maker and what you perceive the recipients possible thoughts or reaction. This is the fun part. Most greeting cards that I like usually use the drawings and pictures to convey the actual message then the text shows what is the obvious.
It is not that hard to create a greeting card. It doesn’t have to be well made like the ones in popular card makers. But if you are doubtful, you get ideas from the internet. There are card makers and softwares out there that have templates already that you can easily customize.
